Lawyers of Distinction is proud to welcome Mr. Scott Kazem, Esq., of Leesburg, Virginia. Mr. Kazem brings three decades of international finance and legal experience to his diverse law practice that includes plaintiff’s personal injury and car accidents, criminal and traffic defense, and civil litigation (contracts, landlord and tenant, business advice). His legal knowledge combined with over a decade of financial experience provides a dual perspective in serving clients.
Prior to forming The Law Office of Scott N. Kazem, Mr. Kazem and his brother Jonathan practiced together in Leesburg from 2001 to 2014; previous to establishing his own practice, Mr. Kazem was an Associate in the Tyson’s Corner office of a national law firm where he gained legal experience in telecommunications land use, venture capital, corporate and partnership governance and litigation. Representing one of the country’s major wireless communications companies, Mr. Kazem has gained considerable experience in land use, permitting, zoning and other government regulations for the telecommunications industry.
While in law school, Mr. Kazem was a member of the Law Review, and served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Judge Juan Vasquez of the United States Tax court. Prior to enrolling in law school, Mr. Kazem, a Certified Public Accountant, worked in the mergers and acquisitions and business development arena. He analyzed new business development opportunities including strategic alliances, joint ventures and key vendor/supplier relationships. He also provided legal and financial support to a major public utility during the development of a retail telecommunications offering, leading to forming a joint venture with two investor-owned utilities serving customers in ten states.
Previously, Mr. Kazem was controller and treasurer for a telecommunications subsidiary of Schlumberger, Inc., a Fortune International 500 company, where his efforts helped restore the business unit to profitability by reorganizing its accounting structure, making strategic acquisitions and tightening control over product and pricing decisions. He also directed development and rollout of major new product lines.
Mr. Kazem has also taught business law and managerial accounting at the CPA School of Washington and the University of Virginia, respectively.
Mr. Kazem received his law degree, magna cum laude from the George Mason University School of Law in 2001; here he was a member of the Law Review. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from George Mason University in 1987.
